Why we became Innkeepers...
In July 2006 we visited a bed and breakfast across the state from where we lived. On the way home we talked about how enjoyable it would be to own a B&B and share it with guests from around the world. We spent some time in prayer and decided to pursue our new dream. We began looking for the perfect house in our local area to start a new bed and breakfast. But after a few months of unsuccessful searching, we began to think that fulfilling our dream might not happen.
We then decided to pursue the option of purchasing an existing bed and breakfast outside the area we lived in. After Thanksgiving, while searching on the internet to look to see if any new bed and breakfast were up for sale, we found Somewhere Inn Time. We called the number listed and the owner, Jim Ferguson, said he was surprised at our inquiry since they had just put it up for sale. When we went to see the house for the first time, Mary remarked "I felt so comfortable, like I was in my own home".
On April 20th, 2007 we became the proud owners of Somewhere Inn Time and are very excited about sharing our home with you.
A little about us...
We are both in our mid 50's and grew up in Missouri. Mary was raised in southwest Missouri and Gary in the central part of Missouri. We have three children and four grandchildren. Mary has worked for the past twenty plus years in the accounting department for a St. Louis based, major barge line. She has been honored to have one of the company's tow boat named after her. We are excited that Ste. Genevieve is on the Mississippi River and that we may have an opportunity to occasionally see the M/V Mary Scheel at work.
Gary is retired and an author of books on the Civil War. Our move to Ste. Genevieve is very exciting for him due to the town's rich, early 18th century history. His great-great Grandfather, a Union Soldier, marched through Ste. Genevieve to St. Mary's landing on his way to Vicksburg, Mississippi. Gary is also active in the Sons of Union Veterans and has given numerous Civil War presentations to schools and historical societies. If you have an interest in the Civil War, Gary will be glad to share his knowledge with you, as well as learn new historical facts from you. There are also various Civil War websites listed on our Links page. Be sure to check them out.
